Louis Akin collection, circa 1905-1913

Collection is comprised of 3 photographs of Louis Akin 1868-1913, two of which are him painting at the Grand Canyon. Also included is correspondence and poetry written by Akin to his friend “Billy” Crane and information pertaining to Akin’s death and estate, including correspondence between W.B Crane and Akin’s lawyer, a newspaper clipping and an inventory of Akin’s estate.

Louis Akin (1868-1913) was a painter famous for his images of southwest. In 1903 Akin was hired by the Sante Fe Railway to paint images of the Hopi Indians and the Grand Canyon.
